Hatchet 3 (2013) is the third horror film of the Hatchet Series. It follows the murderous adventures of Victor Crowley through Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder stars as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow and Rileah Vanderbilt is Misty.
The film's main strength lies in the use of real-world special effects. Hatchet 3 uses a majority of practical makeup effects and sets. This is different from the majority of horror films nowadays that heavily rely on CG effects. The film also has several truly terrifying moments.
The cast delivers a solid performance, with Kane Hodder standing out as the most terrifying villain. It's like a slasher film from the 1980s, with the dialogue being a bit too funny and snarky. There are also instances of humor in the movie which add humour (blog post) to bloody action.
Due to the budget being $1 million, most places were reused from earlier films. The boat house that was used twice in the film was a prime example. Much of this appears to be a re-use from other films in the franchise. If you've watched Hatchet or Hatchet 2, this could make the film appear familiar.
Overall, Hatchet 3 was enjoyable although it was like the previous installments within the series. It provided lots of gory thrills as well as some entertaining performances from the actors.
